Our commitment to privacy is reflected in the Canadian Animal Blood Bank Privacy Policy, which has been developed to comply with the relevant portions of the Personal Information and Electronic Documents Act (Canada). In this respect, The Canadian Animal Blood Bank Privacy Policy governs our behaviour with respect to the collection, use, and disclosure of our donors’ and employees’ personal information.

CABB Privacy Policy

At the Canadian Animal Blood Bank, we respect your privacy. That is why we have developed the Canadian Animal Blood Bank Privacy Policy of which the objective is to specify the CABB’s guidelines for the collection, use and disclosure of your personal information.

The CABB Privacy Policy was developed to comply with the relevant portions of the Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act (Canada). We have drafted the CABB Privacy Policy to facilitate our compliance with this legislation and to demonstrate our commitment to protecting your personal information. We want you to understand the purposes for which we collect personal information. We also want to make certain that we have your consent to continue to collect, use and disclose your personal information for these purposes. 

1. Accountability

If you are a Canadian Animal Blood Bank Pet Owner, the Canadian Animal Blood Bank may have collected some basic information about you. This may include your name, address, and contact information. The Canadian Animal Blood Bank is responsible for all personal information in its custody or control.

2. Purpose

The information you provide will be used by the CABB for the purpose of maintaining donor and volunteer records, providing abnormal test results to your primary care veterinarian, and setting up appointments for donor clinics. The CABB Privacy Policy is to ensure that you are fully aware of our actions. Test results may be used to provide non-identifying information to the provincial governing veterinarian association or academic institutions for the purpose of research and/or public health surveillance. In all cases, we will only disclose personal information about you in circumstances where we believe that it will be beneficial to the continued good health of your pet or as otherwise permitted by law.

3. Consent

The Canadian Animal Blood Bank promises to obtain consent for collecting, using, disclosing, and retaining an individual’s personal information by providing notice of the purposes for collection, use, and disclosure. Prior to collecting and using an individual’s personal information, we shall obtain the consent of the individual or someone duly authorized to act on that individual’s behalf, unless the law authorizes collection, use or disclosure without consent.

4. Limiting Collection, Use, and Disclosure

The Canadian Animal Blood Bank limits the collection and use of personal information to what is necessary for our ability to serve you. 

5. Accuracy

Personal information is to be as accurate, complete, and up-to-date as possible for the purposes of which it is to be used and will be reviewed with you on a regular basis.

6. Safeguards

In order to protect your personal information, we promise to use safeguards appropriate  for the sensitivity of the information collected, including physical measures and with appropriate computer encryption and passwords. 

7. Openness

We promise to honor any request you may make for access to your personal information and to operate in a fair, transparent, and accountable manner. Information on our privacy practices is open to the public for review. 

8. Challenging Compliance

Requests for information on CABB’s Privacy Policy, or complaints about our privacy policy can be submitted to the CABB Central Office. You may refuse to provide your personal information to us and you may also withdraw your consent at any time, subject to legal or contractual restrictions and reasonable notice. However, in either case, this may limit our ability to serve you.
